How To Maintain Your Results
The longevity of your filler results varies between fillers and treatment areas. It depends on your injector's skill, the amount of filler used, and how quickly your body breaks down the filler. However, there are some things you can do to maintain your results as long as possible.

What dermal filler lasts the longest?
JUVÉDERM fillers can last up to 18 or 24 months, depending on the specific product formula. People metabolize fillers at different rates, based on factors such as how mobile the area of the face is. For example, areas that move a lot, such as the lips and mouth, tend to metabolize filler faster than more stationary areas like the temples and tear troughs.
If you want to make JUVÉDERM last longer, we recommend regularly applying a high-quality sunscreen and moisturizer to keep your skin healthy and hydrated. Regular maintenance injections can help you keep the look you love.
How do you avoid pillow face with fillers?
"Pillow face" happens when too much filler is injected or when it's placed improperly, often resulting in an overfilled, puffy look. The best way to avoid this is by choosing an experienced, qualified injector who understands facial anatomy and practices conservative dosing.
Not sure if it's pillow face or just swelling? Swelling is normal for 48 to 72 hours after JUVÉDERM® injections. It tends to subside gradually and shouldn't make your face look unnaturally full. To minimize swelling, apply an ice pack immediately after treatment and avoid heat exposure, such as saunas, hot tubs, and sunbathing for at least 24 hours. Your injector will give you additional guidance on how to reduce swelling after JUVÉDERM injections.
Are JUVÉDERM, and dermal fillers in general, safe?
Yes, these products are very safe when used by experienced injectors on properly screened patients. JUVÉDERM contains synthetic ingredients, so there is little risk of allergic reactions like with collagen injections.
Are there any alternatives to dermal fillers?
If you want to add volume to your face, fat grafting can be a good surgical alternative to dermal fillers. Similarly, if you want to achieve a firmer, more contoured-looking face, microneedling or skin tightening treatments can address laxity and regenerate collagen for plumper, more youthful-looking skin.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is another nonsurgical option. While it treats a different type of wrinkle, it is often used alongside fillers to smooth lines and creases.
How do I know how much JUVÉDERM I need?
No need to worry. Your provider will determine how much JUVÉDERM you will need to achieve your desired look. The number of syringes varies between patients, treatment areas, and desired results.
Will people notice if I get fillers?
No, in most cases, you will look subtly refreshed after getting fillers. People may notice you look different but generally won't be able to pinpoint the reason why. Keep in mind that achieving that refreshed look depends on the skill of your injector and your desired level of volume. The most natural-looking filler tends to be more about technique, placement, and volume than the specific formula chosen.
Should I get BOTOX or dermal fillers first?
You can receive BOTOX and dermal fillers during the same visit, a combination known as a liquid facelift. If you're new to injectables, your provider may recommend starting with one treatment based on your priorities, such as softening lines or restoring volume. Your degree of facial aging, aesthetic goals, and budget can help determine the best starting point or whether a combined approach is ideal.
